Making a Call to the Ivory Coast [29 Dec 2009|09:48pm]

Actually, I should be able swing a nice keyboard next month. Musician's Friend is selling a nice Casio 88 key for $400. It beats buying an XBox 360.

But then again, the new Google phone may come out next month. Or, just go on show.

Hate the anticipation.

If You Were Friends Like These... [29 Dec 2009|08:24pm]

Maybe it's drama.
See, I'm thinking about it again. If there is a free moment, I just start thinking about it again. Long time 'friend' suddenly unfriends, because of friendly interaction.
I'm harping.
Getting resentful?
Maybe.
No answer to the question why.
Am I a disease? I don't think so.
*cough

I must be bad, in some way.
A slug?
A blight?
An eyesore?

The wallow is too deep.

Kick me.

Should Have Seen This Coming [28 Dec 2009|11:17pm]

segue
No, I really couldn't see it coming. What? See the cut-off and cold shoulder. Hm, the real kind of, turn-the-back, there was nothing to have lost, nothing to regret, nothing ever to waste.

Getting friends, and keeping them--staying in contact--is tough. It's always been that way, because I moved around a lot.

The Internet isn't really considered a friendly place, but it is, can be, should be, what you make of it.

You know someone for years through the Net, and then suddenly, that's all a big waste of time. No cause, no reason.

I want to know why.

Seems unjust.

Hurts.

2009 Was Cracked Up [28 Dec 2009|12:09am]

Biggest disappointments from 2009?

I stopped taking pictures. Not sure why. I might just become overwhelmed with it. Too many cameras, and not any subjects. I couldn't always carry the digital either, for lack of something to carry it in. Too dangerous to shove it into my pocket. Anyway, I want to change that. I'll have to post them to Photobucket, of Picasa, because my Flickr account is full. Even though I thought I could afford $25 a year, it turns out I cannot.

I had predicted that I could get back to seeing 200 movies this year, but alas, money, and mostly just the time needed to watch, just wasn't there. Can that be rectified next year? Yeah, if I stop posting to sites like LJ!

I had also 'promised' to be a book together of short stories. This halted around October, as I was hitting that brick wall as I always do. It's the one called Edit. I hate that wall. Big and imposing, smelly mud-brick wall, with that used hay in it.

A new laptop was not in the cards. Next year? With the tax refund? lol, I laff at myself.

Er, what else? Don't remember. Was there something I wanted to draw? Or was it, to just draw!?

Oh, I had also wanted to finish a few stories. Didn't do that either. Moron.

How about electronics of the year?

I still don't have an iPod. Nor a fancy touchscreen phone. Sucks.
But, I did get an auto-advance Nikon with AF. Sweet to have. The lens is loud, but it's a camera, and camera's are supposed to be loud. Got that soccer_mom56!? lol. Yet, I haven't even gone through a whole roll of film with it yet.

Another new thing, trying to keep my spirits up, that I had purchased, was a used PC, at about 700MHz, and maybe about two years old. Super nice. Though, I'm still here on my laptop. Crummy thing, that is prone now to BSOD, which I suspect is because of heating (soaring) RAM! Ouch!!

Still need an LCD television. Grr.

Yeah, end-of-year lists are terrible, because they always come out before the year is up. Like, when you get that magazine that is doing tributes to people that die that year, and there's still month to go. For instance, Brittany Murphy. My last issue of Entertainment Weekly didn't mention her because they sent the story to press way to early.

So, on that subject, the biggest loss for the world this year was the death of Heath Ledger. Phenomenal person.

Anything else on that subject? No. But, Warner's idea of movie the next Harry Potter movie back, is just, crazy. Crazy.

And that DiCaprio flick? Ugh, I've already forgotten the name of that flop, which hasn't even come out, and may not (I hope).

Getting close to the end of the year, and probably that time to reflect on things.
Job sucks.
Driving to work and back home still sucks.
Not doing what I want to do, sucks.

Pretty good year for music. My taste has really changed, but I'm not surprised. In cyclical fashion, I've tuned back into a softer style of music. My favs of the year:

The Decemberists - The Rake's Song
Dirty Projectors - Stillness is the Move
Maserati - Inventions (Monolith too)
Passion Pit - Little Secrets
Phoenix - 1901 (thanx to Cadillac; French tho')
Nelly Furtado - Manos Al Aire
Booker T. - Native New Yorker
AMORIC - Only For You

And probably the most undeniably best band I never heard of until this year, has to be Maserati. RIP Jerry Fuchs. What a talent.

And you can tell, this is very far removed from the hard rock I used to rotated through.

On the movie front, I still didn't make my 200 movie quota. Sucks. I did see quite a few movies in theaters this year. The most I've seen outside of rental since I was in high school. Five! w00t! Best in the theater was--"District 9".
Best rental--"Gran Torino". Came out in January..., hard to believe.
Best online (no matter what release year)--"The Train", starring Burt Lancaster. It was just a weird, true story, that seemed impossible to get an audience interested in. But, like District 9, it worked.

Think I'll make other posts instead of extending this one.

Forget Christmas [27 Dec 2009|12:24pm]

[ music | Phoenix - 1901 ]

I would have posted Merry Christmas, if there was something merry about it. But, due to my poor decision making, and poor bosses at work, I got stranded away from home. This set a new record for me getting home from work: 48 hours!

The experience was horrific, terrifying, nerve-wracking, stupifying, and all the bad words. What really irks me, is one boss saying "It's not that bad." What a dumb-ass. Ugh!! Hate, hate. So full of hate. I don't want another xmas. Think I'll just ignore it next year.

The white-out of the blowing snow really caused me a panic. The thought of bumping into someone, or running off the road was so intense, I almost had a mental breakdown a few times. There is just so much to say about, it's a book.

Later.
